It’s Time for the Hour of Code!

This December, Bell participated in the Hour of Code. The Hour of Code initiative is a yearly campaign to encourage students to try computer science during Computer Science Education Week. Since 2013, it has reached over 100 million students worldwide in 180+ countries. Supporters of the campaign include President Obama, Sheryl Sandberg, Bill Gates, Susan Wojcicki, Ashton Kutcher and many more.

Over the course of the celebration, each classroom visited the lab to learn about the initiative and do an introductory activity. Primary students used Scratch to program a pen to draw in rainbow colors or create a magic show starring Scratch, everyone’s favorite cat. Intermediate students learned coding basics by programming Pong, the classic video game in Scratch, while 7th and 8th graders continued their latest Scratch projects and helped introduce Kindergarteners to coding on Code.org.

Even Mrs. Caudill, Ms. Miller and Mr. Dunkle participated in this exciting event, which was enjoyed by all!
